NorthBay Health’s Emergency Room (ER) Nurse Manager, Brian Johnson, BSN, RN, CNML, recognized opportunities to enhance how staff connect with patients with Limited English Proficiency. In the ER, time is critical—and so is communication. Brian explains: "Our nurses needed a tool that could support quick, in-the-moment conversations and provide instant connections in urgent situations.”
Empowered by a shared nursing governance structure at NorthBay Health, Brian and his team took the lead on finding a better way.
After piloted the system, Brian saw clear benefits: instant access, consistent quality, and support for the fast pace of emergency care.
Assistant Nurse Manager Gracie Polen, MSN, RN, lives this reality daily. She says, “Jaide is allowing us to power conversations in our patients’ native language, meeting them where they are, and facilitating communication during emergencies.”
The nurse-led project was launched this spring with Jaide’s AI interpretation across all NorthBay Health ERs and observation bays.
Since the launch, the system has expanded from Spanish only to include: Arabic, Cantonese, Farsi/Persian, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Tagalog/Filipino, and Vietnamese.
